All About Apples. What better way to kick off your school year than with a hands-on, fun-filled learning week?
Hey homeschooling friends! 👋
I’m so excited to kick off our monthly homeschool learning themes—and what better way to start than with something simple, sweet, and seasonal… APPLES! 🍏🍎
I’ve created a week-long apple life cycle homeschool unit that’s packed with fun, learning, and a dash of Irish charm. Best of all? You can grab the printable PDF for FREE and use it anytime this fall. 🙌
🌿 Why We’re Doing Monthly Themes (and You Should Too!)
When I first started homeschooling, I felt pulled in a hundred directions. I was trying to cover all the subjects separately—and it was exhausting.
Then I discovered the power of monthly learning themes. Instead of juggling disconnected topics, we now go deep into one theme per month, connecting it across:
- Science
- Reading & storytelling
- Art
- Geography
- And more!
It keeps things fresh, meaningful, and so much more fun—for me and the kids!
🍎 This Month’s Theme: All About Apples!
Our first unit is based on the apple life cycle, and it’s designed for kids aged 8–11 (but you can adapt it for younger or older siblings too).
Here’s what we’re exploring this week:
✅ The full life cycle of an apple tree (seed to fruit)
✅ Fun apple facts from Ireland (did you know Armagh is called “Orchard County”?)
✅ A sweet, printable short story set in an Irish orchard
✅ Two creative, hands-on printables
✅ A 5-day flexible schedule with open-ended activities
And yes, there’s a free download. 🥳
✨ What’s in the FREE Apple Life Cycle PDF?
I’ve bundled together nine printables you can use all week long:
📄 1. Apple Life Cycle Cut & Paste Worksheet
Perfect for visual learners!
🎨 2. Design Your Own Apple Tree Template
Get creative! Kids can draw apple blossoms, ripe fruit, roots, or even little woodland creatures. Add labels or just let their imaginations go wild!

🇮🇪 A Bit of Irish Apple Magic
As an Irish homeschooling mama, I had to include a few local nuggets! 🇮🇪🍏
We learned that:
- County Armagh is famous for its Bramley apples
- The Armagh Bramley even has protected status (like champagne in France!)
- There are apple festivals here every year with games, cider making, and so much joy
The printable story, The Little Seed in Armagh, is a cozy read-aloud to bring this all to life for your kiddos. ❤️
📅 Our 5-Day Apple Life Cycle Plan (Use it Your Way!)
You don’t need a rigid schedule—just a rhythm! Here’s how we used the resource:
Day 1: Read the short story + intro to the life cycle
Day 2: Do the cut-and-paste worksheet
Day 3: Geography + Irish apple facts
Day 4: Creative tree drawing
Day 5: Optional nature walk after baking our famous tart tatin
You could even stretch this over two weeks—go at your own pace, mix it up with other subjects as well, this is not a week of only doing apples. The kids have writing, spelling, maths, and other online classes as well during the week days 🙂
